♦ Recent ypB Events Recap
• Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out the Space Coast Early Intervention Center with a landscaping project.
On Saturday, July 12, Grady Marshall, Cliff Matthews, Jonathan Krauser, Casey Whelan, Mike Welch, Kim Carpenter and Brandon Percy assisted with the installation of approximately 125 trees at the Space Coast Early Intervention Center campus in Melbourne. After all their hard work was done, Sally Shinn of the SCEIC had this to say, “Thanks so much to all of you for the beautiful changes in our ‘Big Back Yard’. The kids are enjoying watering everything (in spite of the rain). It will make a wonderful environment that is so inviting for all of us!”
• Investment Seminar
David Brooks of UBS hosted an Investment Seminar for us on July 22nd. He spoke about the four cornerstones to investing. The information was a great mix of investment theory and practical advice. Those who attended the seminar found it very informative and useful, check out some of their testimonials:
“Not only was the presentation a good introduction to saving and preparing for retirement, but Mr. Brooks did a great job of going in depth into the various avenues for investing and diversifying. He is gifted at teaching and speaking in front of groups, and he clearly enjoys his work.”
“Thanks, and great job. This was my first ypB event to attend and it was great to meet everyone and an excellent presentation.”
“The seminar was very informative. I learned a lot.”
• Executive Chat
Alan Doshier joined us on July 29th to discuss his experiences as a top-level executive at Northrop Grumman. He talked about his journey to the top and outlined his 12 Steps to success. He engaged in an extensive question and answer session after the discussion. This is what some of the attendees had to say:
“The event was educational and timely. It’s good to hear from those who are still in the workforce.”
“It was a great way to learn from an experienced professional.”
• Improv: The Game Show
On Saturday, July 11, approximately twenty ypB members and their guests attended this performance at the Melbourne Civic Theater. After enjoying a 10% discount at Mainstreet Pub, participants laughed as they were pitted against each other as they try to match wits with the funniest improvists and comedians of the Space Coast. The audience became contestants playing games such as “Shtick, tac, toe”, ”Whose Lie Is It”, “Are You Smarter Than The Village Idiot”, “Baffled” and many more. Lots of great prizes were awarded to participants, including our very own Dawn Hamilton!
• July Social
NASA invited ypB representatives to their "Emerging Leaders" panel discussion to inform their young professional employee base about getting engaged in their community and ypB offerings. After the discussion, NASA YP's were invited to our July Social and Networking event was held at Sparky’s in Titusville. We enjoyed free appetizers, free pool until 7pm and of course, good company. Check out pictures from the event at www.spacecoasthot.com.
